Josh Montalvo started his career as a DJ in the late 1980's working as a Soundman for the company Professional Sound System located in Puerto Rico. In 1990, when the company evolved to Power Station DJ's, the biggest company of DJ's in Puerto Rico, he became a Light Man & Stage Designer. In 1991, he moved from sound, lighting & stage design to DJ. He played in many clubs & bars all over the place gaining recognition as the youngest, progressive DJ.

In May 1999, Josh became the Resident DJ of JD's Pub, and began to host his own night as a Resident DJ. This is how "TRANSESSIONS" was born: a session of Pure Underground Electronic music sounds. TRANSESSIONS was the biggest night of Electronic Dance music in the North-Western coast of Puerto Rico...and the gig where many new acts & DJ’s showcased to a full house every Thursday night. Josh hosted these nights for 2 years in a row, from 1999 to 2001. By that time, Josh was involved in many projects as a DJ & Producer with the alternative- electronic- rock band U.R.A.L.S.. He collaborated on their first EP "Electrik" from Atomic Spin Records. His collaboration on the track "Communication" was a fusion between alternative electronic sounds in a 4x4. “Blast Rockin' Beats” came out of this one along with his partner & producer Ramey Bass, and U.R.A.L.S.’ guitarist Raymond Fernandez. Josh also performed with them on their live appearances all over.

In 2003, Josh started a new project known as “Skintag Music”, a production- wise chapter in his career, focusing on Production, Mixing & Remixing. Skintag Music is that sound, that ground-breaking, forward-thinking sound, which becomes part of your body & soul. It’s music to dance to while thinking that it's deep and dark but with a feeling.

2005 kicked off with a more minimal sound. His "Smoking Electron" track was selected to be featured on the music compilation "Locals Only" by the international beer brand Heineken. This compilation included music from the Best Puerto Rican DJ's & Producers. Since then, Josh has been busy in the studio, working on remixes & his own productions as well as focusing on new ideas to create new sounds in Electronic Dance Music but, it’s still House Music.

On 2009 Josh joined forces with Red Shield Records releasing an EP called Smear as Deep Soul Architect.

Smear is the first release of many to come from Red Shield Records hailing from Puerto Rico. It is one of those deep, dark and filthy tracks that has been creeping up on our island's scene since Christmas banging on hot spots from the Capital to Isabela's now infamous Costa Bar. Once Again is just as punishing and non forgiving as the first with a housier vibe and percussive vocal snippets that are on point over the eerily soothing flutes and stabbing chords. DSA has ... been an integral part of the islands nightlife for over a decade, his sound has matured over the years and it represents the current sound of late nights in San Juan. He is part of the next wave of Techno and House Dj's and producers who make up the Red Shield Crew that have redefined the sound of the city with its bumpy, bouncy, techy underground grooves.

Red Shield Records is a label based out of Puerto Rico that aims to deliver quality electronic music of various forms to music enthusiasts worldwide. The artist roster boosts many of the island’s finest producers and names in the scene, plus a handful of newcomers and their contemporaries from abroad. It was founded by Juan Mauricio Rojas(Squadra, Vanguardia Sonora, Ro-Mal),who also runs Amalgama Records, with the intention of showcasing the current sounds of the Puerto Rican underground and music that doesn’t fit under the Amalgama brand.
